Jan, a 48-year-old, neurotic, socially inept man, tries to find peace during a chaotic train journey. He escapes into a dream about geese.
Jeremy and Aurora are lost at sea. In the endless expanse of the ocean, they are trapped together on a small tree trunk. Not understanding each other’s desires and limitations, the fight for their survival and the survival of their relationship becomes a bloody mess. Will our castaways manage to evolve as they try to return to shore, or will they lose a piece of themselves along the way?
The woman and the man are in a room, a gecko sits in a terrarium, several flies circle around a lamp. In an old Soviet recording studio, a group of musicians attempt to record a composition based on Pushkin’s play ‘A Feast in Times of Plague’. A strange and frightening phenomenon is disturbing the musicians – be it the ghosts of the past or an echo of a war. Nobody notices what is happening around them until the end.
In 1981, we left Poland for a short visit to Germany. My grandmother was desperate, she said she would never see us again. And in fact, due to unforeseen events, we stayed much longer than we thought. But eventually we were to return to Poland for Christmas… It’s a story about families torn apart, longing and loneliness. And how we are sometimes simply left to our fate.
